Here's a few words about.......
The most commonly found form of image used on the internet is a raster image, such as the the .JPG or .PNG formats, which use tiny dots of light known as "pixels" to create an image. However, if these images are enlarged for display on an electronic device such as a computer, iPhone or iPad, or enlarged for use in printing on a physical surface, they will easily become what is called "pixellated" and take on an out of focus appearance.
Scaleable Vector Graphics, (.SVG format), Encapsulated Post Script, (.EPS format) and Adobe Illustrator (.AI format) use a very different scheme to create an image. Instead of dots of light, mathematical instructions are the key to creating these images, which gives a distinct advantage when the image is displayed or printed at a size different from that in which it was originally created. Every time one of these images is resized for use in printing purposes, the math used to create the image is recalculated and the image is "redrawn" to accomodate the change in size. The image can be scaled up or down without any of the loss of quality that would happen with raster (.JPG or .PNG) formats. This means that the same image could be easily converted for use in many print sizes, from your business card or brochures to the sign in front of your business or home or even installed on your corporate jet!
The images in this portfolio are actually copies in an electronic format (because you're looking at them on an electronic device) but the originals were created through the use of vector graphics.
